“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”—Colossians 4:2 (NLT)
I know everyone gets sick of listing what they are thankful for during the month of November, but I think it is a good reminder to get in the habit of daily gratitude. This is something we should do every day of the year, not just this month.
Debbie sure did give us food for thought with last week’s blog. After reading her story, I hope it put your life in perspective and that you have been able to focus on all of your blessings.
I know some people get uncomfortable when you bring up talking to God. It is foreign to those that don’t do it. As a Christian, this is called, “praying.” Praying isn’t just asking God for something but also giving him praise and thanksgiving.
God wants to hear our voice. He desires for us to talk to him, just as we desire to hear the voice of one of our loved ones. My husband travels quite a bit on business. Some of his trips are out of the country where he is gone several days. How I long to hear his voice on the other end of the phone once a day. God desires to hear our voice every day too. It doesn’t have to be just once a day either. We have the privilege to talk to Him throughout our day if we choose. We have constant access to Him.
One of the ways that I am able to do this is through my knitting. As I knit and memorize scripture, it is a way to praise God. By praying for the person that will receive my gift, I am staying in communication with my Heavenly Father. It gives God great joy when we aren’t always asking for things in prayer but also giving Him praise for all of our blessings.
This month, let’s get into the habit of writing down our blessings no matter how big or small you think they are. What I do is write in my One Line a Day Memory book. Every Sunday, I go through it and I thank God for each of those days and what I did. I am in year three of this and I go back and see where I was and what I was going through the prior years. By having something like this, it gets you into the daily habit of writing down one blessing for the day as well as whatever else is going on in your life.
Dear Lord, help me to put my focus not on what I don’t have but how You provide and take care of me on a daily basis. As I knit or crochet this week, remind me to praise You and thank You. Amen!

The photo above is what I plan on passing out this month. Click on the pattern ideas tab and you will find it listed under washcloths as, Praying Hands. I cast on with red yarn and on added the red yarn again for row 65 and the bind off. This represents how we are all sealed with the blood of Christ from the beginning to end. I will attach one of my tags to it when I give it away.
